Truth about artificial sugar. Why we shouldn't drink diet soda

body Jan 09, 2018

I see many people using pink, blue and yellow artificial sweetener packets in their coffee and tea and also they are in diet soda, medicines and many things that you don’t even think about. Diet coke is used Aspartame which is equal and Diet Pepsi uses sucralose which is Splenda, actually Pepsi was using Aspartame till 2015 but they switched to Splenda which is one of the most researched ingredients in the world, with scientific studies consistently confirming its safety is used in Diet Coke and Pepsi and other no-calorie drinks.
Today I want to talk about Aspartame which is Equal, Sucralose -Splenda, Saccharin- Sweet ‘N Low.

Aspartame which is blue one – (Equal, NutraSweet, NatraTaste Blue)
Aspartame may impair memory performance and increase oxidative stress in the brain. A recent study shows that consuming aspartame during pregnancy or while breastfeeding can predispose babies to metabolic syndrome disorders, and obesity, later in life. Common side effects of aspartame include headaches, migraines, mood disorders, dizziness and episodes of mania.
FDA conclusion that aspartame is safe as a general purpose sweetener in food.

Sucralose which is yellow one – Splenda
Sucralose derived from sugar and originally introduced as a natural sugar substitute. However, it’s a chlorinated sucrose derivative. It is 600 times sweeter than regular sugar, and it could cause addiction. Meaning it could make you want more sweet stuff.
Saccharin (Sweet ‘N Low)
This product contains saccharin, which has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals. I know we are not animals but I feel that if the bladder tumors seen in rats why do we bother using it when there are other alternatives out there?
Side effects are Headaches, Breathing difficulties
Diarrhea and, Skin problems
Now you know the fact about artificial sweeteners,
Here are other alternatives you could use.
1, Maple syrup. It’s not sugar-free, but it contains antioxidants and minerals. And they are natural.
2, Coconut sugar. It is not zero calories sugar substitute, but they contain minerals and fiber. It tastes like brown sugar, and it’s not highly processed like white sugar.
3, Stevia. Stevia is my favorite choice of sugar alternatives. Stevia has no calories and it’s natural. It is extracted from the stevia plant. The leaves have been used traditionally for hundreds of years in both Brazil and Paraguay. You need to be careful that some of the stevia packets have other ingredients such as Erythritol which is sugar alcohol and natural flavor who know what it is. When you buy it, check the ingredient and make sure to pick one with just the simplest ingredients.
4, Raw honey
It contains amino acids, natural enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Look for a local beekeeper to source your raw honey, it could help with seasonal allergies.
5, Organic cane sugar
It is sugar but if you are going to eat sweet, eat a moderate amount of real sugar.

One thing about natural sugar, I just want you guys to now that since high fructose cone syrup became an evil, major US food companies are using so call real sugar. But do you know this real sugar comes from GMO sugar beets? Not from natural sugar cane. Genetically modified technology has been around just 20 years. Big food manufacturers all say GM foods are safe, but I am on a fence.
I will talk more about GMO stuff on another time.

So my conclusion, I still love eating good dark chocolate and ice cream here and there. I think problems about sugar substitutes are that we fool ourselves that “well I just had no calories soda, I can afford to have extra pieces of M&M candies. ” If fake sugar is doing what it supposed to do, we should be all skinny by now, right?
So I really want you to read nutrition facts and make smart decisions.
