Why Women Should Lift Weights

I am pretty sure that you’ve heard that someone’s grandma or your neighbor fell and broke their hip or arm. When you wake up in the morning, all of your joints are stiff and your back hurts. If you are like me, you notice your metabolism is slowing down or almost nonexistent

Today I want to talk about why we need strength training now more than ever.

1, For your Bones

As we get older, your bones start to lose density and bone mass and becoming weak. Bone loss increases after menopause when estrogen levels drop sharply.

As a result, you may break your bones from a fall or even from sneezing. Studies suggest 1 in 2 women age 50 and older will break a bone due to osteoporosis, which is a bone disease that makes your bones weak and brittle. That is insane!

Like muscles, bones are living tissue that responds to exercise by becoming stronger. Weight-bearing exercise is the best for your bones because it forces you to work against gravity. Examples include walking, hiking, jogging, climbing stairs, weight training, yoga, and dancing.

2, For your Muscles

The more muscles you have, the more energy your body expands.

We lose an average of 5 percent of our muscle mass every 10 years after the age of 30, if we don’t do anything about it. Your muscles support your body, and muscles help to burn more energy. When you build muscles, you help protect your joints from injury and increase your balance and coordination. And nothing like having toned body right?

3, For your mind

When you exercise, you get an instant release of “feel good” hormones called endorphins.

Women experience depression twice more than men, so lifting weight helps to make you feel better, and when you stick to it, you will start seeing the result. And you start feeling of accomplishment after you finish your workout.

4, For your sex life

When you lift weights, your body produces a small amount of testosterone which is the primary male sex hormone. This male hormone improves your libido. That is a good thing. Don’t worry, you will never bulk up like male bodybuilders. It is just impossible. So no more pink baby size weight.

5, For your everyday life

When you have a strong body, it makes your life so much easier. Carrying grocery bags to your house, picking up the suitcase, going up and down the stairs, and the list goes on.

Now you know lifting weights is good for you, but first, make sure you are safe. Consult with a personal trainer and have him or her show you how to lift weights in proper forms so that you don’t get injured.

That’s it for today. Thank you for watching and hope to see you next time.
